[4] HELLPIGS began life circa 1995 and was developed initially by Classica Entertainment, who was led by main coder Damir Petkovic. In 1996, Classica signed a deal with Vulcan to publish the game. Initially, Vulcan had planned to release the game on both CD and floppy. The cut-down floppy release (minus FMV and other extras) was going to be a staggering 22 disks, but the idea was later scrapped when they decided that all their future game releases should be CD only.
The game was scheduled for release by Vulcan in 1997/98, but Classica Entertainment reportedly cancelled the game after trading the games industry for the TV industry to make commercials [Source: Paul Carrington (Vulcan), Amiga Nutta IRC Conference; courtesy of the Internet Archive].
The saga didn't end there, however. After Vulcan left the Amiga market in late 1998, upcoming Amiga developers Digital Dreams Entertainment (DDE) struck a deal with former lead coder Damir Petkovic to resurrect the game. [Source: Raymond Cindric (DDE) interview, courtesy of Digital Amiga Dream]
DDE renamed the game to CODE NAME HELL SQUAD and put the finishing touches on the near-complete project by adding a cinema-style intro, which they filmed themselves. The game finally saw the light of day when DDE published it themselves in 2000.
