|Long name||Codemasters/Code Masters Limited|
|Mother country||United Kingdom|
Set up by brothers David and Richard Darling and their father Jim in October 1986 after a year of writing for Mastertronic. Prior to that, David and Richard had written Vic 20 games as Galactic Software while at school.
Code Masters publishes on the pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap basis, lots of titles, all at impulse buy prices. An extraordinary high profile PR campaign in 1988-9 by West End consultants Lynne Franks put the Darlings on TV and in the national press, making them one of the very few programming 'celebrities'.
Their first title was BMX Simulator (all formats) and as of March 1990, was still their best ever seller.
