Established by George Johnson (president, public relations, advertising) and Tim Perez (administration, legal matters) circa 1985, DigiTek began as a hardware company. The first products they released were a RGB conversion kit to transform C= 1701/1702 monitors into RGB digital monitors, and a set of third party computer chips for the C64 that added features of a fastload cartridge to the C64 architecture. These sold well, but DigiTek's direction changed completely with the release of the A1000 in 1985. Johnson was so impressed by the A1000 that he morphed the company overnight into a software house.
The first Amiga product released by DigiTek was a drum sequencer called Drum Studio. Thereafter they released Amiga games in collaboration with German sister company micro-partner. Together, the two companies bridged the distance between the European and North American continents by each releasing the software products that the other company designed, as well as their own original software.
