Notes

[1] Game design by Max Taylor, Paul Holmes and Lee Boyce, based on an original idea by Adrian Stephens. Coding by Max Taylor, Ka-Chun Tsang and Nick Tuckett (aka Nick Byron). Graphics by Ian Harling. Sampled sound FX by Spiny Norman. English questions written by Max Taylor and David Booth. French translation by Sylvie Noirault and Deborah Pearce. German translation by Reiner Mielke and Andrea Walther. Spanish translation by Valerie Taylor, Victor Ferro and Fiona Ferro.

[2] POWERPLAY (ENHANCED) - published 7-8 months after the original 1987 release of POWERPLAY - is an upgraded Amiga-specific version that was released by Arcana because they felt that Amiga owners were no longer satisfied with games ported over from the Atari ST and, presumably, could capitalise on the superior features of the machine. [Source: The Games Machine preview (Issue 9, Aug 88, p14), courtesy of the Amiga Magazine Rack]

[3] POWERPLAY (ENHANCED) differs from the original 1987 Atari ST port of POWERPLAY as follows:

- 32 colour low-res graphics (vs 16 colour low-res graphics of the original 1987 release)
- Graphical titlescreen and game credits
- Large hand-drawn portraits of the 21 game characters displayed below the checkered game board that accompany the Greek gods as they take their turns during gameplay
- More detailed backgrounds on the main game screen and in the challenge sections
- More finely animated challenge sections (but one less challenge section than the original release)
- A "game over" screen featuring an encounter with Zeus, King of the Gods of Mount Olympus, accompanied by sampled speech
- Improved sound
- Withdrawal of the question compiler utility contained in the original release due to difficulties experienced by players in using it to generate their own sets of questions for the game
- NDOS disk format (vs DOS in the original release)
- B&W manual (vs colour manual included with the original release)

[4] Game features mouse/joystick/keyboard control.

[5] In 1988, publisher Arcana offered customers who purchased the original release of POWERPLAY a free upgrade to POWERPLAY (ENHANCED) if they returned their game disk. In return, customers received the free upgrade accompanied by a letter personally inviting them to provide feedback on the enhanced Amiga-specific version of the game (see HERE).

Conversion Notes

Based on 1986 Arcana 8-bit (BBC, C64/128, Amstrad) release.

N.B. BBC version was released on disk only.
