Formed in 1989 by Stephen Smith and Paul Goulding as demo group, AUSHAX. Other members included musicians, Spock (Detlef Paukner) and TMK (Mark Keogh). Their name change to AUSTEX in 1990 initiated their beginnings as a game development team, which eventually spawned the shareware release of Uropa² in 1996. In 1997, the game saw a commercial release when Vulcan Software took over the distribution. Currently, Austex are developing hardware and software for Nueron systems, which are based on ColdFire processors and include Personal Access Devices and embedded microcontrollers.
